Archbishop Demetrios of America Sends Letters of Support and Condolences to Religious and Political Leaders in London
New York – His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios of America, immediately upon learning of today’s terrorist attacks in London, sent letters of support and condolences to Archbishop Gregorios of Thyateira and Great Britain, Archbishop Rowan of Canterbury and all England, and Prime Minister Tony Blair.
Archbishop Demetrios expressed, on behalf of over 1.5 million Greek Orthodox Christians in America, his sorrow and indignation for these latest terrorist attacks against innocent people. In his letters, Archbishop Demetrios wrote, “These horrible acts of violence blatantly opposing the letter and the spirit of the Gospel, affect all the people of the world who respect human life as a gift of God, and are determined to live in peaceful existence with each other. Having experienced the horror of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in New York City and Washington, we fully share your deep pain and rightful indignation resulting from today’s events.
“Joining all the people who face the ugly threat of terrorism, we condemn any sort of violence, and we declare our commitment to the promotion and establishment of peaceful co-existence among the inhabitants of God’s earth.”
