  • ~Unbelievable!~

Nicholas threw up, at church today- in the bathroom, he’s good about that, so that was a good thing. But, what is going on? And if you stopped reading my blog by now, I wouldn’t blame you! It has been nothing but illness for the last two weeks now. I just don’t get it. At first signs of strep throat I hightailed everyone to the Dr. , started antibiotics, changed toothbrushes, sanitized EVERYTHING, changed all sheets, etc…and washed  everything on sanitized. The house was cleaned from top to bottom and we can’t eradicate whatever this is. Nicholas is a pale, lethargic wisp of a thing, at the moment, Fr. just had to carry him up to our bed. The rest of the family is feeling fine and just headed out to dinner with some friends- a nice break for Fr. and the kids- although- the way the wind is whipping the air around I am glad to not have to go anywhere- it is bitter cold, 2°F (feels like -21), but oh so pretty from inside our warm house. I love the blowing snow- that is something you don’t see in Cincinnati, it is like being inside of a snow globe.  A good friend from Church brought us some homemade chicken soup that was just delicious and REALLY hit the spot! Thank you!! It was the first thing I have eaten outside of dry toast in three days. In other news…oh who I am kidding, I have no other news! But I hope to have something more interesting to post soon.

ETA: These are kids that I accost everyday the moment they walk in the door after school and make them wash their hands in the laundry room before they can proceed any further. They also eat home made meals of organic food and as much fruit and veg as I can get in them as well as a multi vitamin everyday and Fr. and I take 8 supplements a day one of which is eccenacia.  Crazy! Maybe we have become resistant to antibiotics. Nicholas is 8 years old and has never even been on an antibiotic until last November. I called the nurse last week and she believes that the strep and the stomach flu are both two different things, while I tend to believe they are related, she thinks , of course, the strep is bacterial and the stomach flu is viral. I don’t know I just hope that this is it for the rest of the year.

*Updated to add that Nicholas has just been sick again, is running a temp. of 102 and I  definitely agree that it is the strep bacterial infection that is causing the nausea not a virus.  We just have to get better by Friday, everyone is so looking forward to our trip back home for the winter school break.

  • Oh, Presvytera – this just won’t stop will it?  My guess (purely as a mother – not as a medical professional) would be that this is still strep.  Strep can definitely cause vomitting.  Last winter we all had it and my toddler’s ONLY symptom was incessant vomitting.  My husband’s only symptom was fever and nausea (no sore throat), but it was strep allright.  Another time, my older son had strep and no sore throat, just fever and nausea.  I hope it gets better soon!

  • @Erin - I totally tend to agree with you. It is very hard to keep an antibiotic down. I am going to call the Dr. tomorrow and see if Nicholas and I can get a shot of antibiotics to clear out the strep. Thank you for taking the time to leave me a post, that helped me to know to follow my  gut.  The last time the kids had strep between Thanksgiving and Christmas I didn’t have any sore throat symptoms and it turned out I was the carrier. I am definitely going to follow up and get to the bottom of this.

  • I agree with Erin. I get strep about once a year. (I have an immune system diffeciency) I know I have strep when I begin vomitting and running a fever. I hope this nasty bug gets through your household soon.

  • Hugs, hugs!!
As for strep, we never get is, but Thomas our youngest got it this year. He was very sick and then when I thought he was over it, he got these little pimples all over his body. Friends of ours have had the same thing happen to them and got strep again, after they had these pimples. The nurse told them it was also strep. Lo and behold they all had those pimples.
Anyway, Thomas is all better now, but we have had some nausea and stuff going around as well right around that time, so it could very well be related. ABX really mess with your immune system though so it could very well cause by that as well. Lots of probiotics are good for both strep and stomach things.
As a side note, we have never taken ABX for strep and the kids have only gotten it once in their lives. It is hard to go through but doable. Maybe a suggestion if it comes around again!
Hugs, hope you all get better soon!!

  • Oh I feel so bad for you all! It reminds me that no matter how much good we do (diet, vitamins etc…) we still live in a fallen world. May Jesus bring healing to your home soon! I know how awfully hard it is to keep up with the ministry while the family is under the weather. Praying for perseverance!

  • Oh my goodness. :( {{{hugs}}} and prayers

  • Sounds like us LAST February!  We had it for 5 weeks!!!!!  (I PRAY you do not have to go through that!)  Everytime I thought we were done, it would go again.  Everyone, except me (miraculously) got sick twice.  (Once and then about a week later went through it again.)  It was ridiculous the amount of prescriptions I had.  All five kids plus Les – I literally had a bucket with all the medicines from the doctor.  I washed sheets, cleaned everything – I have no idea why I couldn’t get rid of it.  All I know is that I washed my hands after I touched any body fluid from anyone and never got sick – I think it was God’s way of being kind to me for everyone else being sick.  It was also the last time (so far) that Chris has had seizures so we’re hoping we’re done with that too now.

Well – hope we get to see you if you do get to come home.  Hope everyone gets better very fast!

  • We’ve been having colds around here for a long time too, going from person to person.  I also wonder why – esp since I was juicing fruits and vegetables for them to eat – even juicing wheatgrass and having everyone drink that.  I figure our immune systems should be super strong.  Then I heard a homeopathic doc – can’t remember where – and I won’t be able to word this correctly – but something how illness is not always bad.  Sometimes we have to get illnesses to build other immunities.  Something along those lines – don’t remember exactly.  But I felt like I could stop racking my brains as to how to prevent it.

I know that doesn’t make you feel any better.  Wish I could. Sorry it keeps going on like this.  I’m glad someone brought you chicken soup that you like

  • My sister had strep and she was vomiting.
