  •  ~Our New Church~

Last weekend Fr., Basil, Jonah and I visited our new Church – and had a fantastic lunch at a wonderful Greek restaurant (one of many in the area, I am told.). The boys had fun on the drive, we stopped and had lunch with our good friends, the Priest and Presvytera that served our  new Church for 18 years. They are delightful and we enjoyed visiting with them. We were hoping to visit with Alana too, but Gwen was sick. It would have been neat to see Alana and her family, especially because, last Saturday, Feb. 17 marked the two year anniversary of their chrismations and baptisms. Hopefully next time we drive up we can get together, the boys keep asking me when they are going to see the godbrothers Addison and Eli again and their godsister Gwen.

The boys were very excited to see the new church and the parish house and they especially enjoyed swimming in the hotel pool. The church is just astoundingly beautiful (my pictures don’t do it justice), the people I met are very friendly and from what I can see the community is vibrant, enthusiastic,  progressive and spiritually healthy. The church is a Gothic building and a historic landmark; it was originally a Presbyterian Church. The complex is huge and beautifully maintained. They have a wonderful lending library, the likes of nothing I have ever seen before, an extensive gift shop/boutique and bookstore, a beautiful chapel and many more wonderful amenities, like a gym, meeting rooms,  kitchen etc…

We have moved in with my parents and I am busy going back and forth to our house and  weeding through our belongings, packing up and getting  ready to put our house on the market. It is a great house, if anyone is interested!

Fr.’s first Liturgy, at the new Church, will be on March 18 and the Church’s Greek festival is June 1, 2 and 3. My three best friends, their families and my parents have already made plans to come up for the festival. We are looking forward to our new city, our new community, and all the adventures that await. Greetings to all the wonderful folks, at our new Church that read my blog. It was great meeting you and I look forward to meeting the entire community soon! Glory be to God!

  • what exciting times for your family!!

the Falls pictures are beautiful — I’ve only ever been there in the summertime

  • The falls and the ice and the snow I don’t like, but the church — WOW!!! Makes me want to move there!

  • How exciting! WHat city is your new church in? Are the children excited or are they nervous about switching schools?

  • It’s a beautiful church!  Are the boys going to attend school there or did I misunderstand that?

  • that’s beautiful!

  • Beautiful Church Lisa!! I have been to Niagra falls in the summer. It looks chilly yet breath taking in your winter photos. Praying your transition will be smooth!

  • What an absolutely GORGEOUS parish!!! I love it!  (reminder to self: thou shalt not covet)  It really is beautiful.  Love the Niagara Falls pics too.

  • Isn’t it pretty? A few years ago they had a tragic fire and the whole place had to be redone, they did a wonderful job of restoring the church. I especially love the carpet with grape vine boarders and that coordinate with the grape vines around the royal doors.

They boys will finish school here and in the fall start at a Christian school in New York. The school is not a Classical but it has many elements of classical education and the academics are very rigours, we are grateful we found it. We haven’t really looked at our other options, yet. I forgot to mention, in my post, that one of our reasons of going up last weekend was to visit the school. Everyone was very nice and Fr. had a good discussion with the head of school and he liked her. So that is the plan for now.

Niagara falls was very cold but a beautiful winter wonderland. I know we will be visiting it again in the summer and I am looking forward to that!:sunny: Today it was in the 50s here, the sun is out and the snow was quickly melting. Bring on spring!:sunny:

  • ps. Tracy you can covet our church if I can covet your weather! :sunny:

  • Very beautiful church !

  • The colors of the deep, warm wood and the vibrant stained glass – wow!  Incredible and uplifting.  It is demanding to stay involved with all the details of moving and arranging the education needs of your children – but enjoy the process of transistion.  God is working through you and has prepared an amazing expereince for you.

  • I am indeed a bit jealous of that beautiful church, but know that it will be all the more beautiful with you and Father there.

And, I am so taken with the photos of the Falls frozen like that. I’ve never seen such a thing!

  • wow that is amazing. and the falls are beautiful. i don’t think I have ever seen a picture of them in winter. We have a water fall here (granted minuscule compared to Niagara) but I love to go in the winter when it is all frost and frozen with just a little hotting out hear and there beneath ice. It is so pretty.

  • That looks just beautiful. Hope you all will feel right at home there!
Niagara Falls, Great Canyon, Yellowstone… the kind of places I’d love to go visit, if nothing else in a camper in my old age… that is soooo not me but hey, who cares

  • What a gorgeous church!!! What an adventure the Lord has in store for you all.

  • That is a gorgeous church!!!!  We want to take a trip and visit you when everything with the boys is completed!
